'Be your Dog' is wrapped in a constant low rumble—similar to what one would hear in a plane. I really imagine myself fully immersed in this noise—but it's not anything in particular—It’s not really a physical space, but rather something made up of the subjective 'essence', the emotional and synesthetic components of a plane ride. I feel not the clouds themselves but rather the freedom, the awe, the subtle sense of yearning that clouds evoke. This song really speaks to my desire to reduce, or return to simplicity; a rather abstract, unreachable goal—more desire than goal. The daydream of domesticity is twisted into something which is still sweet, yet utterly subservient. The first few lines feel like your average love song—a desire for touch, a hole, a dream. But the expectation of the “right” type of relationship is subverted. It just feels wrong because us as humans usually feel as if we should be more.
